The Canton Jail is a police jail that is operated by the Dayton Police Department. This facility is located in the city of Dayton.

. Due to the limited amount of space this facility is a short term facility. The offenders that are not eligible to make bail are transported to the state, county or federal prison.

Most of the offenders that are taken to this medium security jail are here for minor misdemeanor charges. The offenders are watched at all times and do not have privacy.

The offenders stay in their single-person cells most of the time. However, there are designated times where the inmate is allowed to go to the common area (this is where they can watch TV, play board games, converse with each other, etc), library and the recreation area.

Inmates are allowed to have reading material sent to them. However, all reading material is required to be sent directly to the Canton Jail from the publisher.

You can also send written letters to your loved one in jail. You will need to use a pencil, blue or black ink. Contraband is not allowed. You also need to keep in mint that the jail employees check all mail that goes in and out of the jail.


Sending Money

There are times when inmates need money so they can make purchases from the commissary as well as to purchase a phone plan to call their loved ones.

If you would like to fund an inmate’s account you will need to contact the Canton Jail personnel. You can also use the kiosk that is located in the jail lobby. Most kiosks accept major credit and debit cards as well as cash. There is a service fee to use this service.


Phone calls

Inmates are not allowed to receive phone calls from their loved ones, however, inmates have the opportunity to call their loved ones with collect calls. Prepaid phone plans can also be purchased for the inmate. You will need to call the Canton Jail to have that setup.

Inmates make their phone calls from their housing units.
